The York Centre for Asian Research (YCAR) is accepting nominations for undergraduate and graduate student papers or creative projects for the inaugural YCAR Global Hong Kong Essay and Creative Project Award as well as the YCAR Undergraduate Asian Essay Award.
A monetary award of $400 will be presented to one recipient of the YCAR Global Hong Kong Essay and Creative Project Award. The winning paper or creative project will also be published online as part of “New Voices on Global Hong Kong,” a special occasional paper or creative project series at YCAR.
The submission should be an original and unrevised version of a term paper or creative project (including creative projects in the field of arts, media, performance and design). It should have a substantive focus related to Hong Kong or the Hong Kong diaspora. The awards will be adjudicated by the YCAR Bernard H.K. Luk Memorial Lecture in Hong Kong Studies Committee. Additional criteria and submission information are available online.
The YCAR Undergraduate Asia Essay Award is offered annually for exceptional undergraduate student papers in two categories: Geographic Asia and Asian Diaspora, with each student receiving a monetary award of $200. The winning papers will be published online as part of “New Voices on Asia,” a special occasional paper series at YCAR.
All papers must have been submitted for a York University class in the 2021–22 academic year and should not have been published or recognized elsewhere prior to submission.
Teaching assistants and course directors are encouraged to submit nominations for both awards categories. The deadline is Friday, April 29. Questions and submissions can be emailed to ycar@yorku.ca.
