Faculty members of Schulich School of Business at York University have been honoured with the annual student-run Seymour Schulich Teaching Excellence Awards.
Schulich’s Office of Curriculum Innovation and Teaching Excellence announced this year’s recipients, which include the top 10 rated program instructors in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Recipients are recognized by their students for their contributions to outstanding teaching and student learning.
The student-driven award is adjudicated based on Seymour Schulich’s vision for teaching excellence, which includes knowledge, enthusiasm, exceptional communication and teaching innovation. This year’s diverse cohort taught a wide range of courses, including accounting, finance, data management and brand management.
The 10 top-rated BBA and iBBA undergraduate program instructors the award at the Undergraduate Business Society Gala held earlier in May. Instructor Alex Garber won first prize and Adjunct Professor Alex Fisher placed second. They received $15,000 and $10,000 respectively. Recipients will also be celebrated during Spring Convocation and showcased in the Seymour Schulich Teaching Excellence Awards Hall of Fame in the Schulich building.
Also recognized in the top 10 undergraduate instructors are: Hila Koren Cohen, Marc Colasanti, Graeme Deans, Margaret Hastings, Ashley Konson, Dishan Ratnajothi, Althea Wishloff and Julie Yan.
In the graduate program category, Adjunct Professor Ashley Konson won first prize and Instructor Alla Volodina placed second. Also recognized in this category are: Christopher Chan, Graeme Deans, Cameron Graham, Ashwin Joshi, Marisa Morriello, Andrea Stupino, Mike Valente and Klaudia Watts.
“The Teaching Excellence Awards are one of the highest academic honours bestowed by our School on the instructors that our students consider to be among the very best,” said Schulich Dean Detlev Zwick. “We applaud and congratulate this year’s nominees. They shared their expertise and enthusiasm for the business subjects they taught, and they contributed to creating an excellent overall student learning experience.”
