York University’s School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design (AMPD) has partnered with Schulich ExecEd to deliver the Schulich Mini-MBA: Media Mastery in the Digital Age, which will offer a unique program tailored to professionals who want to succeed in today’s media landscape.
The media landscape is quickly changing, with video-on-demand services expected to bring $4 billion in revenue to Canada by 2028, jumping from $3.2 billion in 2024. In addition, the global gaming industry has already grown to become seven times larger than the global movie industry in revenue. This program was designed to support film and media creators facing these rapid changes.
Bridging the worlds of entertainment and business, AMPD and Schulich ExecEd’s first-of-its-kind program was designed exclusively for busy professionals looking to secure a competitive edge.
“This program offers advanced training in navigating the modern media marketplace in order to grow your business, be it as an independent producer, a content creator or a cultural leader,” says Beth Janson, program director for the Mini-MBA and an AMPD alumna. “The skills you will acquire in this program are those that we believe producers desperately need to be competitive – the very skills that many don’t know how to attain.”
The 50-hour online Mini-MBA has been crafted with inspiration from media entrepreneurs and storytellers around the world and led by top professors and industry leaders, including AMPD Dean Sarah Bay-Cheng.
“I’m excited to be a part of this innovative and timely program and to work with such a talented team led by Beth Janson,” says Bay-Cheng. “There are important conversations about the convergence of media and digital culture right now and this program will provide key insights from industry leaders.”
Through this comprehensive Mini-MBA, professionals will sharpen their skills in areas such as storytelling, audience engagement and managing digital platforms, while also acquiring foundational business knowledge crucial for navigating the modern media industry. They will also gain strategic insights into leadership, digital transformation and the ever-evolving media environment.
“The Schulich Mini-MBA: Media Mastery in the Digital Age brings together the business and creative worlds to equip media professionals with essential management skills,” shares Rami Mayer, executive director of Schulich ExecEd. “As we have supported health-care professionals in mastering the business aspects of their fields through our Mini-MBA series, we now offer media leaders the necessary tools to excel in a rapidly evolving industry.
