An additional layer of security in York University’s authentication application, Duo, helps protect against certain types of phishing attacks to improve cybersecurity. As part of planned updates to the University’s current two-factor authentication service, University Information Technology (UIT) is deploying an extra layer of security through the use of one-time passcodes.
This change, which go into effect Oct. 17, will ask users to enter a three-digit passcode during the login process. This additional layer of security helps prevent users from accepting a malicious login request – a type of phishing attack that has been encountered at the University. These one-time passcodes will be time-based and refresh every 30 seconds.
