Statistical consulting available for York University community members

York University faculty, staff, students and postdoctoral fellows are invited to book an appointment for statistical consulting with Statistical Consulting Services (SCS).

SCS is supported by the Office of the Vice-President, Research & Innovation and the Faculty of Health. The team is comprised of students, faculty and statistical consultants from around the University, including individuals from the Department of Psychology, the Department of Mathematics & Statistics and the Institute for Social Research.

The services offered by SCS are provided free of charge to the York U community. Faculty members are encouraged to include consulting in their grant application budgets and to use those funds to cover statistical consulting when possible. Students seeking more help with data analysis than standard consulting allows can request to hire one of the SCS teaching assistants, if available. SCS requests that all publications that have used its assistance acknowledge this contribution in the paper.

SCS offers statistical consulting on a variety of topics, including:

  • research and sample design
  • survey data and survey sampling
  • questionnaire design
  • data screening, statistical graphics
  • regression, ANOVA and other linear models
  • multivariate analysis (factor analysis, PCA, cluster analysis)
  • categorical data analysis
  • survival analysis
  • longitudinal analysis
  • multilevel/hierarchical analysis
  • structural equation models
  • statistical computing using SAS, SPSS, Stata and R
  • bayesian statistics
  • meta-analysis

SCS appointments are available both in person and online, depending on the consultant and the day and time. To book an appointment, use the online scheduling tool. Those booking appointments are asked to provide a brief description of the consulting topic in the online form.
