Holiday closure information for the community

Voir la version française

Dear York community,

As the holiday season approaches, I want to share details about the University’s extended holiday closure period. York’s campuses will be closed from Tuesday, Dec. 24 until Wednesday, Jan. 1, and will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2. Some Faculties and units may have adjusted reopening dates, so please confirm with your area if this applies.

On behalf of the University, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to colleagues who will continue working or teaching over the holiday period. Your dedication is deeply appreciated.

For those who require access to campus buildings during the closure, here’s what you need to know.

Access arrangements

  • Notify your manager: if you will need building access during the closure, please inform your manager in advance to ensure proper arrangements can be made.
  • YU-cards: most of the buildings use YU-card access. If you need one, please ensure you have a current YU-card prior to the break.
  • YU-card access requests: submit requests by Friday, Dec. 13, through your manager, who will co-ordinate with Doorcard Services (doorcard@yorku.ca).
  • Physical keys: contact your department’s administrative staff to arrange key orders via Maximo. Ensure you also have your office key or YU-card to gain full access to your area.

Working alone

If you are on campus alone during the holiday closure, take advantage of the Community Safety Department’s Why Work Alone Program. Security Services can check in on you periodically while you’re on campus. This service is readily available on your mobile phone through the York U Safety App.

Energy conservation

Before leaving for the holidays, help us conserve energy and protect our spaces by ensuring all windows and exterior doors are securely closed.

Thank you for your support and contributions throughout the year. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful, safe and relaxing holiday.

Sincerely,

Narin Kishinchandani
Vice-President Finance and Administration
