Navig8 Web site helps students chart a course for success

Navig8, a new Web site aimed at supporting York students as they transition to their next academic year, has just launched.

The Navig8 project gathers need-to-know information in one convenient e-place and provides online tools to help students manage the process and avoid much of the stress that accompanies the move from year to year.

Navig8 provides a rolling calendar of York’s summer and fall academic deadlines, videocasts from current students who share their tips for success, links to information about minimizing exam stress and understanding grade reports, and a list of high-priority tasks students can undertake to begin their next academic year on track. Students can even subscribe to receive regular e-mail or text message reminders about important dates.

While they Navig8, students easily make their way through detailed information about housing, residence, learning skills, York’s colleges, the Career Centre, money matters, York’s libraries, transit and goSAFE, parking, academic advising, the York University Bookstore and Sport & Recreation. There is also information about opportunities for engagement in student life through clubs and organizations on campus.

The transition from one year to the next can be a complicated affair. Navig8 was developed to help current students guide themselves through the right steps so they’re ready for the academic year ahead.

Navig8 was developed by the First-to-Second-Year Transition sub-committee of York’s Retention Council (formed in December 2007).
