Two profs lead School of Nursing

Two professors have recently been appointed to lead York’s School of Nursing for the next three years.

As of July 1, Adeline Falk-Rafael (right) is director & chair and Deborah Tregunno is associate director & chair of the nursing school. Both will report to Harvey Skinner, dean of York’s Faculty of Health.

Falk-Rafael joined York’s nursing faculty in 2001 and was associate director of the nursing school from 2007. The award-winning nursing educator has been teaching since 1992, following 28 years of practical and administrative experience. Her research focuses on power, empowerment and caring science in public health nursing and nursing education. She has been an active member of professional associations, including the Community Health Nurses Association of Canada, and been president of the Registered Nurses Association (2002-2004) and the Community Health Nurses Initiatives Group in Ontario (1991-1992,1998-1999). 

Deborah Tregunno (left) will work closely with Falk-Rafael to oversee the nursing school’s programs and implement the strategic plan developed last year. Teaching at universities since 1998, she joined York in 2004 as an assistant professor in the School of Nursing and the School of Health Policy & Management. Starting out as a staff nurse in 1975, Tregunno went on to hold leadership positions in nursing administration at major hospitals across Canada. Her research has focused on organizational behaviour and performance measurement.  

The appointments are effective until June 2011.
