SSHRC Day: Tuesday, May 13
The Office of Research Administration will be hosting a Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council Information Day on Tuesday, May 13. Representatives from the Office of Research Administration and Research Accounting will be available to answer questions on SSHRC programs throughout the day. Researchers interested in learning more about SSHRC programs are encouraged to attend.
A detailed program will be made available before May 13. The program will include a morning plenary followed by morning and afternoon seminars and workshops on SSHRC funding opportunities, including the following:
- Standard Research Grants
- Major Collaborative Research Initiatives
- A workshop for faculty on SSHRC’s “A-list”
- Ethics review policies

NSERC Synergy Awards for Innovation
NSERC recently issued a Call for Nominations for the Synergy Awards for Innovation. The Synergy Awards honour outstanding, long-lasting university-industry R&D partnerships. The awards showcase the benefits of pooling university and industry resources to make the most of Canadian research excellence and industrial expertise. Winners of the Synergy Awards for Innovation show effective use of human, technical and financial resources, and demonstrate a lasting partnership between university and industry collaborators, with tangible commercial results.

Winning universities receive a $25,000 NSERC research grant.
Canada-US Fulbright Awards
The Canada-US Fulbright Program recently announced a competition for programs beginning in September 2004. While the competition is “field open”, applications in the following areas are especially encouraged: Canada-US relations; Canadian studies; public policy, including those areas of science, technology and health that bear on the program’s mission; international trade; North American economic integration; urban and regional planning; communications; culture; ecology and the environment; indigenous issues; and law and border issues.
