All of the York University community is deeply saddened to learn of the death of student Shane Fair, the University said in a statement yesterday.
The Toronto Police Service recovered Fair’s body on Saturday in the water near where he was last seen on Saturday, May 16 at 12:30 am, in the Lakeshore Boulevard West/British Columbia Road area.

“The York community is saddened to hear of this tragic development,” said Mamdouh Shoukri, York president & vice-chancellor. “Our thoughts are with Shane’s family at this most difficult time, as well as with his friends and classmates, who are mourning his loss.”
The family of Shane Fair extended appreciation for the public’s support, in a release from Toronto police, and asked that their privacy be respected.
Counselling services will be available to York students through the Counselling and Development Centre. Faculty and staff members may seek counselling through the Employee Assistance Program.
