John Morrison, Canada’s ambassador to the Republic of Serbia, the Republic of Macedonia and Montenegro, speak today as part of the York Centre for International & Security Studies’ (YCISS) Post-Communist Studies Seminar Series.

One of Canada’s most experienced diplomats, Morrison will discuss “20 Years Since the Wall Came Tumbling Down: Observations on Post-Communist Europe” today from noon to 2pm at the International Conference Centre on the fifth floor of the York Research Tower, Keele campus.
Morrison joined the Department of External Affairs in 1985 and has served abroad as third secretary at the High Commission for Canada in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; second secretary of political affairs in Beijing, China; program manager of political, economic and public affairs at the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei, Taiwan; economic counsellor in Tokyo, Japan; and as minister counsellor and deputy head of mission in Moscow, Rusia.
In Ottawa, Morrison has occupied a number of positions, notably as director of the Eastern Europe and Balkans Division and of the China and Mongolia Division. From 1999 to 2000, he was a foreign policy adviser in the Privy Council Office’s Foreign & Defence Policy Secretariat.
In 2008, he was named ambassador to the Republic of Serbia, with concurrent accreditation to Montenegro and to the Republic of Macedonia.
