Costume extravaganza includes a zombie walk

York is U presents the largest daytime Halloween celebrations on campus, today and tomorrow. This year’s theme is Cirque du York – Carnival of Lost Souls.

To get in the mood, the event organizers are planning a zombie walk across campus on Wednesday, from noon to 1pm. The walk will start in the Student Centre at the golden statue.

Right: Students who dress up for Halloween will get a prize

On Thursday, the celebrations will be sprawled across the Keele campus and will last from morning till evening. Visit the Haunted House and feel an experience that will thrill you like a live horror theatre – a dark trail that will send fear to your mind and chills all over your body. Room after room of ghosts, monsters and fright will shock and surprise you. The Haunted House will last from 11:30am to 5pm at Chancellor’s, located on the first floor of the Underground. Look for the line by the golden statue.

Alongside the Haunted House, from noon to 5pm in the Student Centre, come enjoy some creepy cotton candy, play terrifying games and get plenty of confectionary delights.

Serena Chin, york is U budget coordinator and a second-year student in the International Bachelor of Business Administration Program in York’s Schulich School of Business, is really excited about what her team has planned. “We’re putting in a lot of time and effort into the event, and it’s our goal to try and have something to offer for everyone,” says Chin. “Whether students are passing by on the way to class or just chilling in the Student Centre, we want to make sure that everyone at York knows it is Halloween and has a good time this year.”

All students wearing a costume on Thursday will get a prize. Students can also enter a costume contest, held at the Student Centre from 2 to 4pm, for a chance to win one of three grand prizes worth $50 or more. Scary-looking (or not-so-scary-looking) professional airbrush tattooing will also be available from 1 to 4pm.

“Halloween is an incredible excuse to eat more chocolate than your thighs can forgive you for, and to walk around campus with an elaborate costume that doesn’t fit through doors…. And it brings back some pretty great childhood memories," says Laurie-Ann Tao, york is U special events director and second-year visual arts major. "York is U is simply here to give you the opportunity."
