Nationally known poet, novelist and children’s writer Susan Musgrave, a frequent guest on CBC Radio, will read from her work, as well as talk about her writing Wednesday at York.
Presented by the Creative Writing Program in York’s Department of English, Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, the reading will take place Nov. 18, from 11:30am to 1pm, at 214 Calumet College, Keele campus.

Musgrave is also an essayist and a columnist. She has published 25 books and has been described as everything from a stand-up comedian to an eco-feminist. She lives on Vancouver Island and on the Queen Charlotte Islands/Haida Gwaii.

Over the years, she has been nominated and has received awards in six different categories of writing: poetry, fiction, non-fiction, personal essay, children’s writing and for her work as an editor.
In addition, Musgrave wrote the lyrics to a song, Missing, dedicated to 62 of the missing women on Vancouver’s downtown east side, which was recently released on CD. Proceeds from sales go to Haven Society, a non-profit organization that provides a transition house for women and children who have suffered abuse, as well as a victim services and women’s assault program on Vancouver Island.
Her most recent novel is Cargo of Orchids (Knopf Canada, 2000) and her latest poetry collection is What the Small Day Cannot Hold: Collected Poems 1970-1985 (Beach Holme Publishing, 2000).
