Learning for a Sustainable Future, a non-profit organization housed at York and dedicated to promoting sustainability education, has entered the Youtopia Grant competition, in which the winner receives a grant of $15,000 in design and/or strategic communications services from Free Range Studios.
If Learning for a Sustainable Future (LSF) wins, it hopes to create a video to highlight that “schooling” nee
ds a revolution – for more engaged students and a sustainable future. This need was evidenced by a recent Canadian Education Association (CEA) report titled "What did you do in school today?", which found that only 37 per cent of the students studied were intellectually engaged in their language arts and mathematics classes.
Schulich grad Annette Dubreuil (MBA ’07), an LSF consultant and coordinator of York’s Institute for Research & Innovation in Sustainability, is hoping to encourage votes for her organization’s entry in the contest at the Youtopia Web site.
To vote for the LSF grant proposal, visit the Schoolvolution entry page or visit Vari Hall this Friday or next Monday and Tuesday (between 10am and 5pm) where LSF staff will be manning a computer for voting. You will be asked to register online after which you will receive three votes to cast for your favourite sustainable idea. Voting is open until Dec. 1.
