Toronto mayoral candidate George Smitherman will visit York’s Keele campus today to speak at McLaughlin College.
Hosted by York’s Undergraduate Political Science Council, Smitherman will be on campus from 12 to 1:30pm to talk about his campaign to become the next mayor of Toronto.

The former MPP for Toronto Centre and former deputy premier of Ontario has been active in politics since high school. He worked as an organizer for the Ontario Liberal Party and Premier David Peterson and has served as a senior adviser to federal ministers from Ontario. He was also chief of staff and campaign manager for former Toronto mayor Barbara Hall.
He was first elected MPP in the 1999 provincial election and, when the Liberals took power in 2003, became deputy premier and minister of health. Most recently, he was minister of energy & infrastucture, but he stepped down, and later resigned as an MPP, in order to run for mayor.
Smitherman’s talk will take place in the McLaughlin College Senior Common Room, 140 McLaughlin College. Light refreshments will be served and all are welcome to attend this free talk.
