Anderson and Bache volley to silver at University Cup

York University volleyball players Ryan Anderson and Dan Bache made a valiant effort in the championship final of the International University Cup beach volleyball competition in Repentigny, Que., July 24-27.

Their chances of getting the gold looked good after they won the A calibre flight of the Challenge Volleyball de Repentigny on July 26. They then became eligible as finalists in the championship game. However, Anderson and Bache lost 2-1 (24-22, 18-21, 14-16) to the Université  Laval in the championship final. Still, they won the silver.

Anderson and Bache are members of the York University men’s volleyball team. Anderson, a native of Kagawong, Ont., was selected to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) All-Rookie team last year. The environmental studies major was among the OUA and Canadian Interuniversity Sport leaders in blocks.

Bache, a psychology major and native of Thornhill, Ont., was a team captain with York last year and is among the team’s career leaders for assists.
