York University is a place where students learn how to turn their passions into meaningful actions. It was true some 52 years ago when the University was first created and it is true to this day.
In the decades since its inception, York has evolved from a concept conceived to meet a growing demand for postsecondary education spaces to one of Canada’s leading comprehensive universities.
York’s President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri has a globally inspired vision for the University’s “this is my time” campaign.
“2025: My work as president has helped York become one of the world’s leading academic institutions,” he says.
Through a comprehensive and rigorous curriculum taught by world-class faculty; a focus on innovative ways to learn through experiential education, international internships and partnerships with more than 200 of the world’s leading universities; the development of state-of-the-art learning space; and a focus on community engagement and celebrating student success, he is laying the foundation to realize his vision.
“We represent the university of the 21st century because of the diversity of our programs, our strong academic quality in almost every field of knowledge, and the diversity of our population,” says Shoukri. “We aren’t what we were 52 years ago, or even 10 years ago and I want to ensure that the world understands that this is our time”
