The top 25 women of the WTA will play at the Rexall Centre in Toronto from August 6 to14, including Australian Open champion Kim Clijsters and former world No. 1 Serena Williams. Joining Serena will be her sister Venus, along with recent Grand Slam winners Li Na and Petra Kvitova, as well as Wimbledon finalist Maria Sharapova.
But that’s not all. New this year is the Rogers Legends Cup, following the WTA semifinals and final matches. The Rogers Legends Cup will feature ATP tennis legends Andre Agassi, John McEnroe, Jim Courier and Michael Chang competing in a mini-tournament August 12 to 14 at the Rexall Centre.
The other news for the 2011 Rogers Cup is that, starting this summer, the women’s and men’s internationally recognized tournaments in Toronto and Montreal will be staged during the same week making them “virtually combined”. Inherent in this new initiative is the need to connect on-site fans and media from one city to the other.
A high-definition video link – the Cisco TelePresence by Cisco Canada – between Toronto and Montreal will help Tennis Canada to achieve this connectivity. It will bring tennis fans, players and media together in both cities, providing face-to-face opportunities for fan interaction and press conference participation at both tournaments.
