York University appoints a new vice-president of advancement

Jeffrey O’Hagan, a well-regarded fundraising professional with experience in the health-care, research and education sectors, will assume the role of vice-president advancement at York University for a five-year term, effective Oct. 1, 2011.

“I am very pleased that Jeff O’Hagan has accepted the position of vice-president advancement,” said York President & Vice-Chancellor Mamdouh Shoukri. “He is well-respected and possesses a strong record of principal and major gift fundraising in the health-care, research and education sectors. I have every confidence he will provide effective leadership of this new division over the next five years.”

O’Hagan is currently the chief executive officer of the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Foundation, where he has led all aspects of the foundation and the $470-million Campaign for Sunnybrook. He joined the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre Foundation in 2007, as senior vice-president, development. During the three years that he was in this role, he was responsible for all campaign planning and the strategic direction of fundraising activity.

“I am delighted to be joining York to take on this exciting new role,” said O’Hagan. “It is a privilege to have been selected to lead this new division at York, and I am looking forward to working with the University as it continues to build on its tremendous record of success in alumni engagement and fundraising.”

Prior to Sunnybrook, Mr. O’Hagan held senior fundraising roles at the University of Western Ontario, including Western’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, and at the St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation in Waterloo. He began his career in wealth management and estate services at the Royal Bank of Canada.

O’Hagan has a BA from the University of Western Ontario.
