Vice-President Research & Innovation Robert Haché shared a consultation draft of York’s new Strategic Research Plan at an open forum on Feb. 12 at the Keele campus.
In his presentation, Haché highlighted the commitment to support research across the university, outlined the six draft themes included in the plan and identified the areas for opportunity in the development of research at York.
The plan has garnered more than 2200 points of contact through the consultation process to date, with more than 50 members of the York community attending the open forum.

“In consultation with the York community, we have developed a plan that is responsive to the feedback received through the last several months of consultations and is broadly inclusive and representative of the research conducted at the University,” said Haché. “We invite the community to provide feedback on the consultation draft as we work towards finalizing the new Strategic Research Plan.”
Those present at the forum were asked to share their thoughts about the consultation draft. In summary, the forum participants said they welcomed the inclusiveness of the plan and expressed appreciation for the comprehensiveness and scale of the SRP consultations. Among the comments offered, there was an expression of interest in the process following the completion of the Strategic Research Plan and the targets for improving and meeting the objectives outlined in the plan.
Haché explained that the next steps include seeking feedback on the consultation draft by continuing conversations with the broader York community through community chats and electronic feedback, and by consulting with faculty councils, research and administrative bodies across the University and the Strategic Research Plan Advisory Committee.
He was joined in the open forum by the Strategic Research Plan facilitators Celia Haig-Brown, who is a professor in the Faculty of Education, and Gary Miller, instructor in the MBA program at the Schulich School of Business and Schulich Executive Education Centre.
As part of the ongoing nature of the consultation process, York students, staff and faculty are invited to share their thoughts on the draft Strategic Research Plan. Visit the Strategic Research Plan website to view the draft and the meeting notes from the recent Open Forum.
