York theatre Professor Teresa Przybylski, Faculty of Fine Arts, and York film & video alumnus Larry Weinstein (BFA ’80), who is director of Rhombus Media, a member of the Fine Arts Advisory Council and one of the CineSiege jurors, took prizes at the recent 2003 Gemini Awards for Weinstein’s music documentary, Stormy Weather: The Music of Harold Arlen.
Weinstein (right) won Best Direction in a Performing Arts Program or Series, and Przybylski won Best Production Design or Art Direction in a Non-Dramatic Program or Series as part of a three-person design team.
Theatre designer and architect Przybylski joined the faculty in York University’s Theatre Department in 2000, bringing a wealth of professional experience gained in Canada and Europe. Well-known as a designer for opera, theatre, dance and film, her extensive Canadian credits include productions at the Stratford Festival, Canadian Opera Company, Young People’s Theatre, Tarragon Theatre, Factory Theatre, National Arts Centre, Theatre Smith-Gilmour, Théâtre Français de Toronto, Theatre Columbus, Native Earth, Necessary Angel, VideoCabaret and others.
Recent projects include set and costume design for the Canadian Opera Company productions of Il Tabarro and Cavalleria Rusticana; art direction/design for Rhombus Media’s Don Giovanni Unmasked, which earned her a Gemini Award; set design for The House of Bernarda Alba at the Shaw Festival; and set and costume design for The Birds in the Stratford Festival’s current season.
