How is higher education policy made? What do university presidents do? What priority do accessibility, research, and rankings have in the world of higher education? What is institutional differentiation? How are market forces affecting higher education in Canada and abroad?
These and other questions are addressed in two new books by York scholars that will be launched with a panel discussion and reception on Feb. 11.
Making Policy in Turbulent Times: Challenges and Prospects for Higher Education edited by York Professors Paul Axelrod, Roopa Desai Trilokekar, Theresa Shanahan and Richard Wellen, with contributions from renowned scholars around the world, is a major contribution to the study of higher education.
Rethinking Higher Education: Participation, Research, and Differentiation by George Fallis, University Professor and professor of economics and social science in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies, is a stimulating and provocative argument for new approaches to the organization and delivery of higher education in Canada.
Both books are published by the Queen’s School of Policy Studies, McGill-Queen’s University Press. Join the authors and editors for a discussion to be followed by a reception on Feb. 11. The launch and reception will be held in 519 Kaneff Tower, from 4 to 6pm. All are welcome to attend. Organizers ask that you RSVP to paxelrod@edu.yorku.ca by 4pm on Friday, Feb. 7.
The Faculty of Education and the Department of Social Science in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies at York University, McGill-Queen’s University Press and the York University Bookstore are sponsoring this event.
