Passings: Francis Mina was a team leader custodian

Francis Mina had a successful career at York University as a night shift custodian and then accepting the role as a team leader custodian. He took great pride in his work and was respected by his colleagues at York University.

Mr. Mina died suddenly on Tuesday evening.

In addition to his many friends and colleagues in Campus Services and Business Operations, Mr. Mina leaves his wife Jenny Evangelista Mina, his daughter Frachelle Ann Mina and his parents Leonarda and Manuel Mina.

“Francis was a well spirited person always smiling and would always lend his personal assistance to fellow staff members,” said Joseph Sanguedolce, manager of custodial services at York University. “Francis always had the students and community as his priority, ensuring a clean environment. He shared his terrific sense of humor with his colleagues constantly reminding us that we all need to smile and laugh more. “

Away from his work, Mr. Mina enjoyed playing basketball. His prime joy in life, says Sanguedolce, was to see his daughter each morning at breakfast and then driving her to school.

Visitation for Mr. Mina will take place Saturday, March 8, from 6 to 9pm and Sunday, March 9, from 4 to 9pm at the R.S.Kane Funeral Home, 6150 Yonge Street, North York. For information and directions, call 416-221-1159.

A memorial service is planned for Monday, March 10 at 10am at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 191 Wade Gate in Thornhill (Centre Street and Bathurst).
