Closing the Enforcement Gap: Improving Employment Standards Enforcement for People in Precarious Jobs is the next panel discussion in the Global Labour Speakers Series Wednesday.
The event will take place March 19, from noon to 2pm, at S802 Ross Building, Keele campus, presented by the Global Labour Research Centre. Everyone is welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served.
The panel will present research developed through the “Closing the Enforcement Gap” project funded by a Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) Partnership Grant of which Leah Vosko is the principle investigator. The project is examining the link between precarious work and the enforcement of employment standards. Panellists will discuss new approaches to employment standards enforcement, measuring employment standards violations through survey research and deterrence-based strategies to enforcement.
The speakers at the event will include:
- Leah Vosko, professor of political science and Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in the Political Economy of Gender & Work at York University;
- Eric Tucker, professor of law, Osgoode Hall Law School;
- Mark Thomas, professor, Department of Sociology and co-director of the Global Labour Research Centre, York University; and
- John Grundy, SSHRC postdoctoral researcher, Department of Political Science, Wilfrid Laurier University.
