The York University Lions football team will travel to Ottawa during training camp for a pre-season exhibition contest against the Carleton Ravens on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Kick-off is set for 7pm at Ravens’ Field.
The game will give players on both teams a chance to participate in a full game setting ahead of the start of the OUA regular season the following week.
“This contest provides our team with a great opportunity to face the rising Ravens since they are not on our schedule this year,” said Lions head football coach Warren Craney. “Steve [Sumarah, Carleton head coach] and I go way back and we are on the same page in terms of what we want to get out of this. We will use it to help our program get better, to evaluate some of your young players and to focus on getting ready for the season.”
York and Carleton will not meet in the regular season this year as the Ravens represent one of two non-combatants for the Lions (the other is the Guelph Gryphons). The first meeting between the two squads since the Ravens returned to the OUA came last year in Week 5 in Ottawa and resulted in a big 50-34 victory for the Lions.
Training camp for the Lions begins on Monday, Aug. 18 and will run for two weeks. Their first OUA action comes on Monday, Sept. 1 (Labour Day) with a road game against the Ottawa Gee-Gees at Gee-Gees Field.
