Thoughts and opinions will be bouncing off the walls, as York University hosts its fifth annual TEDxYorkU event at the Keele campus on March 28 in the Tribute Communities Recital Hall.
The theme of this year’s event is “Ricochet.”
Like an idea, the likelihood of a ricochet is dependent on many factors. When in motion it absorbs and interacts with its environment, ricocheting off elements and rarely traveling in a straight line.
TEDxYorkU is looking for compelling and creative members of the York community with an interesting idea or important vision to share. Those who are selected will be paired with a member of the speaker relations team who will assist them in the development of their talk and presentation, helping to ensure the best possible delivery and reception. Completed talks are then uploaded to the wider TEDx community, which has helped make TEDxYorkU the most viewed series of talks associated with York.
Previous events have included the following speakers and topics:
- a speech by Luke Durward, kinesiology student in the Fitness Assessment & Exercise Counselling certificate stream, on How to Make Healthy Eating Unbelievably Easy, which has generated more than half a million views on YouTube;
- Janet Morrison, vice-provost students at York University, shared her passion on the importance of success and community engagement for students in her Universities Matter talk; and
- Andrew Eckford, Lassonde School of Engineering professor, discussed his specialty in unconventional communication systems in his talk, Texting With Vodka.
Interested speakers are welcome to apply online until Jan. 15. York University community members are also invited to apply to be a part of the audience and will have a chance to do so online in the coming months.
