Santa’s elves brought some holiday fun to York Lanes yesterday. The youngest members of the York community brought with them a huge dose of seasonal cheer.
Singing carols and traditional greetings for Christmas, Kwanza, Ramadan and Hanukkah, the children of York’s daycare centres decorated the York Lanes Holiday tree with a variety of handmade ornaments. The children made the ornaments and learned the traditional songs for Kwanza, Christmas, Ramadan and Hanukkah in the preschool.
The event was a hit with grown-ups. As the children decorated the tree with a garland of red mittens, paper doves, angels, cranes and fans, adults passing by paused to enjoy the event and left smiling.
“I am so glad I stopped by today,” said Elsa Smythe, a 67-year-old grandmother from Mississauga. “I am just here to pick up my granddaughter from school and we agreed to meet in York Lanes because she knew I could find it. I didn’t expect this. How delightful, I really do feel in the mood for the holidays!”
The Christmas tree is located in York Lanes across from the Company’s Coming Coffee and Tea Cafe.
