As you are likely aware, on Monday night CUPE 3903 members representing our contract faculty (Unit 2) ratified a new three-year contract. Regrettably, the units of CUPE 3903 representing teaching assistants and graduate assistants (Units 1 and 3) rejected the University’s offers.
Since the labour disruption had passed six days, the Senate Executive met on Tuesday to determine which courses could resume and when, based on ensuring fairness to students and maintaining academic integrity. With our contract faculty returning to the classroom, the University is in the process of developing plans to resume all classes as soon as possible.
We recognize how concerning this situation is for our students, their parents and for other members of our learning community. That is why our most immediate priority is to finalize plans to allow as many students as possible to return to their studies in order to complete their terms.
I am pleased to announce that effective today, Wednesday, March 11, courses offered by the following academic units will resume:
- Lassonde School of Engineering
- Schulich School of Business
- School of Nursing in the Faculty of Health
- School of Administrative Studies in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies
- School of Human Resources Management in the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Professional Studies
A specific list of the resuming courses was posted shortly after 10pm on Tuesday evening.
To view the list, go to labourdisruption.info.yorku.ca/classes-resume-march-11.
Note: Tutorials and labs may be affected – further details will be provided by the relevant programs. Senate Executive will meet on Thursday, March 12, to review the Faculty-specific plans that will inform the committee about resuming the balance of courses on Monday, March 16.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
