Access to RefWorks to be phased out

For many years, the York University Libraries provided access to RefWorks, a web-based bibliographic tool used to keep track of citations. Over the past decade citation management software has evolved considerably and today there are a number of sophisticated software options that provide users with comprehensive free accounts. The libraries have opted to discontinue RefWorks as of June 30 and will instead be supporting two free alternative products: Zotero and Mendeley.

In order to help faculty, students, and staff transition their RefWorks accounts to either Zotero or Mendeley before the end date of June 30, the libraries are holding a number of migration bootcamps.

At the migration bootcamps, library staff will show faculty, staff and students how to transfer their files and citations from RefWorks to either Zotero or Mendeley. Libraries staff recommends that faculty, staff and students bring their laptop to the bootcamps so that they can download Zotero or Mendeley onto a personal computer. Those who do not have a laptop, can still come to the sessions and get some hands-on experience using these citation managers.

Not sure which citation manager is the best fit for you? The University Libraries offers a handy Mendeley / Zotero comparison chart to help community members learn more about these citation managers.
