For the second straight year, York University will be the host of the Toronto Argonauts Football Club’s training camp.
York Stadium, located on the University’s Keele campus, will be the setting for all Argos practices during the team’s 2015 training camp. Argonauts players will again have access to some of the first-class training facilities located on the campus, which are used by a number of Canada’s high-performance athletes.
Canadian Football League (CFL) rookies and quarterbacks will be on the field for a three-day rookie camp starting on Wednesday, May 27, while veteran CFL players will hit the turf for the first time on Sunday, May 31.
The York University Lions football program has produced a number of players that have left their mark on Argonauts history. The most recent examples include current Argonauts Andre Durie, who starred a York from 2003-06, and Ricky Foley (2003-05), who returns to Toronto for his second stint in Double Blue in 2015, as well as recently retired running back Jeff Johnson (1996-99). Former Argonauts quarterback and 1952 Grey Cup winner Nobby Wirkowski was a founder of York’s football program in 1967 and became the team’s first head coach.
