The York University community came together to raise an impressive $183,181 during the 2015 York Cares Campaign in support of the United Way of Toronto and York Region.
Special events held on campus brought in $6,441, the CN Tower Climb raised $4,870, and donations to the campaign through pledges came in at $171,870.
Approximately 75 per cent of the pledge donations ($128,103) was raised by York U’s Leadership Donors – individuals who contributed $1,200 or more. In total, there were 69 such individuals from the York community.
The York Cares Leadership Chairs – Dean Lorne Sossin, Rhonda Lenton and Jeff O’Hagan – hosted a Leadership Appreciation Breakfast on Jan. 21 in the Education Learning Centre Dining Room at Schulich to recognize and appreciate the generous contributions made by this group of individuals.
During this year’s campaign, the York community was very engaged. On-campus events were well-attended, and included the President’s Pancake Breakfast, Chant for Charity, West Office Building Auction, Funny Dress-up Days in the Provost’s Office, Schulichpalooza, and a week of great events hosted by Osgoode Hall.
The President’s Office won the Participation Challenge this year, and will have the honor of having their unit name engraved on the Participation Challenge Trophy and showcasing the trophy over the next year.
The York Cares Campaign committee extends its appreciation to the entire York University community for supporting the United Way of Toronto & York Region.
“Your commitment and generosity reinforce what we know about York as being the engaged university,” said Sossin.
