York will send several nationally ranked athletes, who are medal favourites, to this weekend’s Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Track & Field at the Toronto Track & Field Centre on York’s Keele campus.

The York University men’s and women’s teams will be in contention for the team championship. The men’s squad is ranked 3rd in the OUA and 8th in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS), while the women are 5th in the OUA and 11th in the CIS.
Action begins Friday, Feb. 27, at 12:30pm and continues to 9pm. On Saturday, Feb. 27, events begin at 9:30am and will run through to 4:30 pm. The championship trophies and banners will be presented at 4:45pm Saturday.

York’s medal favourites include Olga Mankovskaya, a silver medallist at the past two CIS Championships. The number one ranked high jumper in the CIS, Mankovskaya established a new school record in the high jump for the fifth time in her career with a performance of 1.81 metres at the Windsor Team Challenge on Feb.14.
York’s Megan Edney, who won bronze in the shot put at last year’s OUA Championship, is ranked second in the OUA and fourth in the CIS, while Fatihat Momoh is ranked third in the OUA and 15th in the CIS in the 300-metre run. Heather Hilsburg enters the championship ranked seventh in the OUA in the 1,000-metre run.

On the men’s side, the medal favourites are highlighted by Todd Zubyck, Patrick Russell and Nyjah James. Zubyck is the number one ranked pole vaulter in the CIS, while Russell is ranked first in the CIS in the 60-metre hurdles. James enters the championship ranked first in the OUA in the triple jump and third in the long jump.
Marlon Nangle, who captured a gold in the triple jump and a bronze in the long jump at last year’s OUA championship, is ranked second in the OUA in the triple jump. Anthony Garber enters the weekend ranked third in the OUA in the 60-metre dash, while Christian Myers is fourth in 60-metre hurdles. Other medal hopefuls include Spencer Clark, who is ranked fourth in the OUA in the high jump and David St. Bernard, who is fifth in the pentathlon.
