Equipment to support the York University/Canadian Space Agency Vection project is scheduled to blast into space early on Nov. 15 from Wallops Island, Va., aboard an Antares rocket. This supply rocket (Northrop Grumman “SS John Young” Cygnus CRS-10 Cargo Craft) is scheduled to dock with the International Space Station (ISS) three days later.
Led by York University Professor Laurence Harris, Department of Psychology, and including Professors Michael Jenkin and Robert Allison from the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in York’s Lassonde School of Engineering, the Vection project is investigating the effects of long-duration space flight on the perception of self-motion.
Experiments on board the ISS are supported by ground control experiments being conducted here at York.
The launch will be broadcast on NASA TV live on Nov. 15 starting at 4 a.m., with a post-launch news conference at 7 a.m. EST. The launch event will replay on NASA TV at 5 p.m.
NASA TV will also cover related events, including the installation of Northrop Grumman “SS John Young” Cygnus CRS-10 Cargo Craft to the ISS on Nov. 16 at 6:15 a.m.
