Expressions of interest sought for position of interim associate vice-president teaching and learning

The following is a message from Provost and Vice-President Academic Lisa Philipps regarding a call for expressions of interest for the position of interim associate vice-president teaching and learning:

I am pleased to invite applications and expressions of interest for the position of interim associate vice-president teaching and learning (AVP T&L) in the Office of the Provost and Vice-President Academic.

The AVP T&L plays a key leadership role in supporting York’s academic priorities as articulated in the University Academic Plan (2015-20), including the enhancement of teaching and learning and student access and engagement – and ultimately the overall quality of students’ experience and their success. In this regard, the AVP is responsible for the development, co-ordination and implementation of strategies to support pedagogical innovation, in collaboration with the Faculties and other areas of the University. This includes administering the Academic Innovation Fund, which provides seed funding in support of initiatives advancing eLearning, experiential education, internationalization of the curriculum and the first-year student experience, and leadership of working groups involved in the development of institutional strategies to promote eLearning and experiential education.

The AVP is involved externally in developing a network of partnerships with economic development agencies and employers in Markham and York Region, and facilitating connections to York programs, faculty and students. More generally, the AVP works collegially to enhance the profile of teaching and learning at York University and the provision of support for teaching development, and to build York University’s reputation for excellence and leadership in pedagogy and student learning. The AVP is also responsible for initiatives to introduce new faculty members to the University and to provide leadership development support for administrators (associate deans and Chairs/directors).

For more information, see the detailed position profile here.

The interim appointment will commence on July 1, 2019, for a one-year period. I would welcome the submission by faculty members of expressions of interest in the position (including a CV and cover letter highlighting any relevant background and experience, and describing the nature of the applicant’s interest) to Richard Ooi, senior executive officer in my office, by email to rooi@yorku.ca. The deadline for submissions is Dec. 10.
