The York University Lions men’s and women’s basketball teams will take on the University of Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday, Jan. 11. The action starts at 6 p.m. for two exciting matchups of city rivals.
The game marks the return of York’s popular Subway Series for the first home date in the promotion’s history. Admission for York students is free and all attendees will receive free food, a promotional gift and a TTC token. Students planning to attend the game must sign up at yorkulions.ca/subwayseries before Jan. 11 at 6 a.m. to qualify for the promotion.

(F) Lauren Golding was named York’s female athlete of the week this week after a big game against the Nipissing Lakers where she scored 19 points and tied her career-high with 14 rebounds. She is averaging 10.9 points per game this year and is second overall in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) with 9.1 rebounds.
University of Toronto
(G) Keyira Parkes, a senior guard, leads the Blues in scoring with 13.4 points per game and assists with 2.5, while also averaging 3.9 rebounds.
Men’s players to watch
York University
(G/F) Gianmarco Luciani, who missed the first five games of the season, has stepped back into a scoring role with the Lions, averaging 17.4 points per game in his past five games. He also leads the team with 5.9 rebounds per game.
University of Toronto
(F) Evan Shadkami, a sophomore guard, leads the Blues with 15.5 points per game and has been dangerous from behind the arc, shooting 38.8 percent from three-point land.
