Student Financial Services is offering three information sessions to York students who wish to apply for Millennium scholarships worth up to $10,000.
Thirty-eight York University students will qualify this year for Millennium Excellence In-Course Awards, which recognize academic achievement and community involvement, leadership and 
innovation. The awards are worth between $4,000 and $10,000. Last year – the first year that the Millennium Foundation instituted the in-course awards – 12 York students received from $4,000 to $5,000.

The Canadian Millennium Scholarship Foundation created the awards for students who have completed part of their postsecondary education. This year, it is distributing up to 1,200 to students at more than 200 CEGEPs, colleges and universities across Canada in September. Each institution plays a pivotal role in the selection of recipients.
Information sessions at York will take place April 5 and 21 and May 13 from 12:30 to 1:30pm in Ross N143. Potential applicants can review the application package and deadlines on the Student Financial Services Web site at www.yorku.ca/osfs before attending an information session.
“The Millennium Excellence In-Course Awards present an excellent opportunity for York students to showcase their excellence in, and focus their energies on, academic achievement and leadership,” said Bonnie Neuman, vice-president students.
The Canada Millennium Scholarship Foundation is a private and independent organization created by an act of Parliament in 1998. It encourages Canadian students to strive for excellence and pursue their post-secondary studies. The Foundation distributes $285 million in the form of scholarships each year. Since its inception it has awarded $1.5 billion in the form of 420,000 bursaries.
