On Saturday, May 11, the Faculty of Science at York University will partner with Mainstreet Markham to host the annual Science Rendezvous event, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This family-friendly event is a part of Canada’s largest celebration of science, with other similarly run events happening across the GTA and Canada. This year, York University will return to Markham to kick off the opening day of the 18th annual Markham Farmer’s Market.
Science Rendezvous is an all-day festival that takes science out of the lab and onto the streets. Thirty cities across Canada, including various locations in the GTA, will host events on the same day. All activities are free and open to the public.
For those curious about science or want to participate in amazing science demonstrations, or perhaps just love to watch science in action, Main Street Markham is the place to be. At Science Rendezvous in Markham, visitors of all ages will get a chance to meet with York University scientists and participate in demonstrations and hands-on activities.
Highlights will include amazing stage demonstrations, getting a constellation tattoo, making DNA necklaces, racing cars, playing a water piano, planting a seed for Mother’s Day and much more.
Parents interested in learning more about science programs for youth at York University can also meet the staff running the Faculty of Science’s Science Engagement Programs (Grade 3 to 12) as they will be on hand during Science Rendezvous.
