An interdisciplinary, mentorship-based employment opportunity is gearing up for its third year at the Lassonde School of Engineering this July. The Summer Research & Mentorship Program is a hands-on program open to 30 high-school students who are:
- female-identified;
- currently in Grade 10 or 11;
- taking/will take Grade 11 university-level math and at least one science; and
- going to a high school in the Jane and Finch area.
Qualifying students have the opportunity to contribute meaningful work in the world of science, technology, education, arts and math (STEAM), guided by 14 Lassonde student mentors and 14 faculty members.
Perfect for students who are curious, creative and willing to learn, this program helps participants cultivate their interests in STEAM fields and earn money while finding solutions to solve real-world issues.
Accepted applicants will have the opportunity to learn about important topics like health care and sustainable energy, gain hands-on work experience and receive support and indispensable insight from inspiring mentors, including current Lassonde students, program organizers and faculty members.
The program is four weeks long and begins Monday, July 8 with full-time hours running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The program is organized by the following Lassonde School of Engineering staff:
- Javheria Ibrahim, summer research program and outreach coordinator;
- Sonia Szubelak, project assistant; and
- Gayathry Wright, student engagement manager.
