Lucy Fromowitz, vice-provost students, issues the following announcement to the University community:
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Darran Fernandez as university registrar.
Darran joins York University after serving for the past seven years as the associate registrar and director of student support and advising, Enrolment Services, at the University of British Columbia (UBC). In this role, he led the implementation of a service model that takes a holistic student support approach to build the foundation for students to succeed across their full post-secondary experience. He has also been instrumental in the design and work of a student financial aid and awards strategy, the development of an early alert system and the implementation of the new student system for UBC.
Darran completed his undergraduate degree at Carleton University, his master of education in higher education at UBC and is enrolled in the doctor of education program at Western University.
The university registrar leads a team of professionals who provide academic support services and systems to both undergraduate and graduate students. The university registrar ensures that all phases of the students’ academic journey – from initial contact through to graduation – are handled with fairness, respect, understanding and care. In doing so, the Office of the Registrar develops and maintains close relationships with senior academic and administrative leaders to ensure the institution serves its students in the very best ways possible.
Darran will assume leadership for some transformative projects at York and will champion systems innovation and the identification of operational, technological, and administrative improvements that will enhance institutional efficiencies and promote student success. He will provide strategic advice on enrolment trends to University stakeholders and provide leadership in a complex and rapidly changing environment.
Darran joins York University on Aug. 26. I am delighted to welcome him and look forward to working with him as he undertakes this key leadership role. Please join me in congratulating Darran and welcoming him to York.
