The first instalment of the 2019-20 Sustainability Seminar Series will feature Dianne Saxe, one of Canada’s most respected environmental lawyers, exploring the topics of climate emergency, energy and the environment on Thursday, Sept. 26.

Saxe, who was appointed a McMurty Fellow for this academic year with York’s Faculty of Environmental Studies and Osgoode Hall Law School, will give a talk titled “Climate Changes Everything” from noon to 1 p.m. in Room 140, Health, Nursing & Environmental Studies Building, Keele Campus. The event is free and all are welcome to attend.

Saxe’s career began with the Ontario Public Service and two major Bay Street law firms. She then established one of Canada’s top environmental law firms. As the environmental commissioner of Ontario from 2015 to 2019, she was appointed unanimously by all members of provincial parliament to report to the legislature on Ontario’s environmental, energy and climate performance, and to be the guardian of the Environmental Bill of Rights. Today, is heading Saxe Facts, a business providing strategic advice and presentations on climate, energy and environment.
After the talk, there will be an opportunity for discussion and questions.

The Sustainability Seminar Series was launched in October 2018 by York University’s President’s Sustainability Council, an advisory body to the president, responsible for providing input and recommendations on how to advance the University’s sustainability initiatives, projects and practices.
