Faculty, staff and students are invited to attend York University’s Remembrance Day ceremonies on Monday, Nov. 11.
The Keele Campus ceremony will take place in the Harry W. Arthurs Common from 10:30 to 11:15 a.m. Community members are asked to gather in the Vari Hall Rotunda at 10:15 a.m. before proceeding out to the flagpole at 10:30 a.m.
The Glendon Campus ceremony will take place from 10:45 to 11:15 a.m. at the Glendon flagpole.
The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month marks the signing of the armistice – on Nov. 11, 1918 – that ended the First World War.
At 11 a.m. that day, the guns on the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare.
Remembrance Day honours the men and women who were killed during the two world wars and other conflicts. Previously known as Armistice Day, it was renamed Remembrance Day after the Second World War.
