Vincent Tao, York’s Canada Research Chair in Geomatics and professor in the Department of Earth & Space Science and Engineering, was appointed Guest Professor in May by two universities in China. The appointment will strengthen the academic collaboration between the institutions and facilitate the internationalization of York’s research in the field of geomatics.

As Guest Professor, Tao will work with Wuhan University in Hubei Province’s capital city, Wuhan. He has established a long-standing research collaboration with the university, which is a key institution directly under the administration of the Education Ministry of the People’s Republic of China, and whose geomatics engineering program is well-known internationally for its high-quality teaching and research.
In addition, Tao will be collaborating with SouthEast University, a prestigious national university located near the city centre of Nanjing. It is one of the top 10 universities in scientific research and development in China, with over 20 national or provincial research institutes and a number of key research bases.
About Vincent Tao
Tao (right) is an internationally recognized researcher and pioneer in geographic information systems (GIS) and remote sensing. Through his work, he collaborates with research communities and industry to develop innovative concepts, methodologies and algorithms, and establish new areas for industrial applications using geospatial information and communication technologies (Geo-ICT).
Tao aims to further the development of innovative Geo-ICT applications and the integration of geospatial components with information and communication systems.
