Updated: REI to offer two Family Status Accommodations Workshops

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, many people have found themselves with more responsibilities caring for loved ones, children or parents. To help the York University community cope, the Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion (REI) is offering two workshops on family status accommodations this month, on July 28 and Aug. 9. (Take note: The previously advertised session on Monday, July 12 has been cancelled and has been rescheduled to Monday, Aug. 9.) Registration is required.

Some examples of family status accommodations include allowing employees to take an appropriate leave of absence to care for loved ones who are aging, have an illness or have a disability; or allowing a student to switch tutorials to be able to care for an elderly parent.

In these 90-minute workshops, attendees will learn more about what family status accommodations are (and what they are not), how to access family status accommodations and request them, and how to respond to requests for family status accommodations. They will also cover some of the equity considerations and gendered impacts related to family status.
