York University’s Security, Parking & Transportation Services has partnered with Smart Commute-Black Creek (SC-BC) to reduce traffic and smog in the area by promoting carpooling to and from York University. Now members of the York community at both the Keele and Glendon campuses have more transportation choices available.
The new SC-BC carpool Web site offers registered users the ability to find a carpool or register to start a carpool in an online database. Carpool matches can be arranged according to preference, schedule and destination.
Ongoing research by the Canadian Automobile Association indicates the average yearly cost to operate a car can be as much as $9,000, or nearly $25 per day. By sharing the ride to work with a neighbour or co-worker, you can significantly reduce fuel costs, parking fees and vehicle maintenance.
Visit the SC-BC Web site and click on the links to register. The more people who sign up, the more carpool matches can be made!
More tips for saving money on gas:
- Join a York BUG (Bike User Group).
- Try taking public transit to work; even one day a week is 20% savings.
- Avoid sitting in traffic. Ask about flextime or staggered work hours.
- Turn off your engine when stopped for longer than 10 seconds.
- Keep your car tuned up. Cars in poor running condition use more gasoline.
