York runs for Terry on Sept. 19


York University will host its annual Terry Fox Run on Sept. 19 to support cancer research and awareness. This year’s run is the 24th since Fox launched his cross-country Marathon of Hope in 1980.

Participants are invited to bike, inline skate, walk or run a distance of 5 km. Registration will take place at Tait McKenzie Fitness Centre from 10am. There will be a complimentary barbecue following the event and free parking available at Northwest Gate Lot.


Pledge sheets are available at various locations on campus, including the York is U office, 326 Student Centre. Registration forms and pledge sheets were distributed by mail but runners can also register or obtain forms online at the official Terry Fox Run Web site. Visitors to the site can also find out how to register and make a pledge or donation. If registering online, include York’s site number: 1847.


The first Terry Fox Run in 1981 attracted 300,000 participants across Canada and raised $3.5 million. To date, more than $340 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry’s name. For more information on York’s Terry Fox Run, call ext. 55492 or e-mail yorkisu@yorku.ca.


Road closures


During the Terry Fox Run, Ian Macdonald Blvd. will be closed from 9am to 1pm at the following intersections: Shoreham Drive, North West Gate, Founders Road, Ottawa Road and The Chimneystack Road.
