Rosaz Sings Barbara: A performance honouring the ‘Lady in Black’

French singer Mathieu Rosaz (left) will visit Toronto for a one-night engagement at Theatre Glendon on Monday, Nov. 29, at 8pm. The Paris-born artist will perform songs by the great lady of French song, Barbara, and sing his own compositions along with those of Sheller, Vian, and Anne Sylvestre. At the piano, accompanied by Michel Glasko on the accordion, Rosaz’s rich voice lends a special sensitivity to the music of the French chanteuse, who died in 1997.

As the only male artist performing Barbara’s songs, Rosaz is a rarity. A young songwriter and composer on the rise, Rosaz belongs to the tradition of French song that gives equal weight to lyrics, music and interpretation.

The concert is sponsored by the Consulate General of France, VIA Rail Canada, la PremiPre Chaîne de Radio-Canada 860 AM, Toronto’s French newspaper L’Express, Le Papillon restaurant, L’Alliance française de Toronto, Librairie Champlain, Costa Leclerc Design Inc., RUN Productions, newspaper Protem, Mécénat Musical and Le Loup du Faubourg.

Seating is limited and advance tickets ($20 or $15 for students) are on sale at the Theatre Glendon box office, 2275 Bayview Avenue. Tickets are also on sale at Librairie Champlain and L’Alliance française de Toronto. For more information, look under “Announcements” on the My Glendon Web site.
