On Nov. 4, York University President and Vice-Chancellor Rhonda Lenton, Ontario Premier Doug Ford, Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti, as well as other notable guests and partners celebrated the official grand opening of the new Markham Campus.
The event served as a celebration of years of collaboration and teamwork that have led to the new Markham Campus building, which features state-of the-art equipment and spaces, as well as programming representing the future of post-secondary learning.
With the York Region projected to see the 17- to 22-year-old population increase by 34 per cent by 2041, the official grand opening ceremony served as an exciting moment to help launch a new future path for students, faculty, staff and the York and provincial community.
“This campus will equip students with the skills needed to succeed in today’s economy, while supporting the growth of local industries and creating new opportunities right here in Markham,” said Ford at the event. “Our government is proud to support this investment in education and innovation, which will drive economic growth and help build Ontario’s workforce of the future.”
