York University issued the following statement yesterday:
Mr. Leon Wasser is currently under investigation by Toronto Police Services for “Counsel to Commit an Indictable Offence” and related charges and has been remanded in police custody. The nature of these allegations is very serious and the University is cooperating fully with Toronto Police Services.
Mr. Wasser had been employed as a manager of commercial facilities at York University; however, his employment was terminated in March 2004 after a reorganization. Under a separate, short-term contract, he had been employed as a part-time, temporary instructor and was scheduled to teach a course during the January 2005 session. This contract has been terminated.
The University has nothing further to add as this matter is now before the courts.
