As its final concert of the 2004-2005 season, the Glendon Musical Ensemble presents a sizzling night of Latin tempos in a concert, titled Noche Latina, at 7:30pm March 1 and 2 in the Glendon Theatre, 2275 Bayview Avenue (at Lawrence).
The program features a mix of Latin styles brought to life by vibrant strings, gentle piano, throbbing percussion and a lively vocal choir singing the sweet and entrancing melodies of Latin American favourites like Antonio Carlos Jobim’s “Girl from Ipanema”. Dancers will also take the stage to stimulate the visual senses and convey the vitality of these rhythms. The ensemble blends together early bossa nova and Latin jazz rhythms with elements of tango and samba drum beats, while the dancers add a salsa flair to the fiery tempos.
The Glendon Musical Ensemble consists of a varied group of talented instrumentalists and vocalists who collaborate each year in creation of their diverse and appealing concerts. Created in 1999 by Glendon students and the Cultural Affairs unit of the Office of Students Affairs, the Glendon Musical Ensemble is co-directed by Cristina Raimondo and Paulo Bittencourt, and consists of Glendon students, faculty, alumni and friends. Brought together on this exciting night, the ensemble expresses the charm and the passion for life, love and harmony that bursts out of the varied styles of Latin American music.
