Professor Howard Daugherty of the Faculty of Environmental Studies received the Sustainability Award 2005 from the Specialty Coffee Association of America at its annual meeting and exhibition in Seattle, April 15-17. This award “recognizes innovative specialty coffee projects and companies that have expanded sustainability within the coffee world while inspiring others to initiate similar endeavours.” This year the association’s Sustainability Committee, which includes some of the most progressive minds in the industry, made three awards for outstanding contributions to fostering a more sustainable coffee community, to York’s Las Nubes Sustainable Coffee, Portland Roasting, and the Starbucks Coffee Company.
